From 21 October - 8 November 2019, local women over the age of 50 can get free breast screens—the best way to find cancer early and save lives. BreastScreen Victoria’s hot pink van, known as ‘Marjorie’, is coming to Yarram to give free breast screens to women from the area. The van was last in Yarram in 2017, and women who screened last time will be due for their next screen. Women aged between 50 and 74 should have a breast screen every two years. They are the best way to find breast cancer early, before there are symptoms and when treatment is most successful. A breast screen can find cancer as small as a grain of rice, long before a woman or her doctor can see or feel anything. All breast screens are with a female radiographer, in a friendly and safe environment. You don’t need a doctor’s referral or Medicare card, and it only take 10 minutes. BreastScreen Victoria CEO Vicki Pridmore is encouraging women aged 50 to 74 from Yarram and surrounds to take advantage of the vans visit to town. The van will be at Yarram & District Health Service, 85 Commercial Road, Yarram from 21 October - 8 November 2019. Appointments for the Yarram van can be made online at breastscreen.org.au or by calling 13 20 50.
